Waste Management 22 Heavy Petting
Heavy Petting 🍑Waste Management 2022
If golf research were sexual...you'd be rounding 2nd base after this.
We've had 1 winner over 100/1 in the last decade. Kevin Stadler in 2014. Spawn of the Walrus..The Peoples Champ. The winning score O/U is set at -18.5. It's been over that once in the last 5 year (Brooks -19 last year).
Some of these greens are large (Scottsdale ranks as the 13th largest greens on Tour). The Poa/Bermuda/Bent mix, the speed and size can cause a few 3 putts. I'm looking at 3 Putt Avoidance for the 1st time this season.
We're already hearing this place is firm and faster than what we've been seeing so far in 2022.
Bubba once said of TPC Scottsdale, "at this place, my driver stays in play...it's a driving golf course." This course rewards SG: OTT as much as any on Tour.
DataGolf has TPC Scottsdale near the very top in terms of courses where experience / course history play a decent role in success.
Controlled aggression is key here. Though water and sand and native area abound, you've got to stay aggressive on the par 5s, number 17, etc. There are a ton of eagles here every year. Look for aggressive players arriving in great ball striking form and ready to score DK points.
The firmness and elevation will make this place play shorter than the card would indicate. We like the longer hitters more, but it certainly doesn't eliminate the shorter hitter if they stay in the fairway.
Per Justin Ray, since 2010 - GIR Rank of the Winners at Scottsdale (3.9) VS Tour Avg (11.5) AND SG:T2G Rank for Winner (4) VS Tour Avg (7.9)
DataGolf ranks SG Metrics VS a player's expectation based on course fit. It's interesting because it can reveal cheaper/long shot players that tend to level up at a certain course.
