Travelers HP 2023

HP 🍑 for The Travelers Championship

If golf research were sexual...you'd be rounding 2nd base after this.

Here are a few key things to know that may not have been covered on the podcast enough. Keep these in mind when narrowing down your bets and/or player pool.As we put a bow on the third Major Championship of the season, the world's best jet-set across the country from Los Angeles to Cromwell, CT to take on the Travelers Championship held annually at TPC River Highlands. It's one of the more recognizable and remarkably consistent venues that we have on the PGA Tour Schedule, with plenty of data that should help give you a leg up on the competition this week. This tournament typically yields jam packed leaderboards and has actually gone into a playoff to decide the winner in 5 of the past 12 seasons. Scoring is right around -15 to -20 as those players in control of their ball off the tee will be presented with an abundance of birdie opportunities throughout the week. Wedge it to Win it at TPC River Highlands! For a complete, in-depth preview, check out the Tour Junkies official course preview Rundown here. Here are some notable things to keep in mind about TPC River Highlands:

  • Last year nearly 46% of approach shots came from 125-175 yards which is well above the PGA standard from that particular range.

  • The average driving distance at this event since 2015 has been a mere 283 yards w/ driving accuracy just shy of 70%

  • The fairways are actually quite wide for a short golf course but the run-offs and penalty for missing on the wrong side can be severe, averaging a +.42 stroke penalty.

  • Over the last 12 years, the winning outright ticket has averaged 60/1 on the oddsboard at this event

  • There has been a mixed bag of accuracy players and bombers have success here, ultimately it's going to come down to having a complete game T2G.

  • In terms of total yardage, this is the shortest course we will see all year.

  • We think this is actually a sneaky ARG course, if you look at previous leaderboards and the difficulty of the greenside rough/bunkers, you have to possess shot making abilities around the greens.

  • The small greens put like bentgrass. Don't get caught up in the poa conversation.
