Scottish Open HP 2023

HP 🍑 for The Scottish Open

If golf research were sexual...you'd be rounding 2nd base after this.

Here are a few key things to know that may not have been covered on the podcast enough. Keep these in mind when narrowing down your bets and/or player pool. Thanks for your patience last week with no emails being sent as the team took a much needed week to recharge during the dog days of summer. Excited to be back this week writing about a fantastic event with a stacked field in Scotland. The Renaissance Club in North Berwick once again plays the role of host for the top players on both PGA and DP World Tour's come together. The Renaissance Club provides an excellent test that rewards a well rounded skillset but as always on the coast of Scotland, pay extra attention to the weather and how it make effect certain waves more than others. Last year for example saw a 2-stroke difference between the AM/PM waves. For a complete, in-depth preview, check out the Tour Junkies official course preview Rundown here. Here are some notable things to keep in mind about The Renaissance Club:

  • 3 of the last 4 winners have been in the top 16 in terms of Driving Distance for the week.

  • None of the recent winners have been inside the top 30 of Driving Accuracy for the week, we have a much greater emphasis on distance vs. accuracy.

  • This course ranked 33rd out of 37 courses in terms a rough penalty for misses off the tee.

  • The 7th hole has been slightly shortened to around 500 yards and will now play as a Par 4, making it a Par 70 this year.

  • Fescue based greens will play slow in comparison to PGA Tour standards.

  • All 3 remaining Par 5's should be reachable depending on the wind for most players and you NEED to score on these holes to have success.

  • Greens are large in size, but I would not discount ARG play this week as the wind can wreak havoc on approach shots.

  • The Top 5 players in terms of course history are Fitzpatrick, Detry, Fleetwood, Xander, and Herbert.

Here is the radar plot from DataGolf :Here is a look at last seasons approach shot distribution at this tournament:
