PGA Champ 2022 Heavy Petting

Heavy Petting 🍑 PGA Champ 2022

If golf research were sexual...you'd be rounding 2nd base after this.

Here are a few key things to know that may not have been covered on the podcast enough. Keep these in mind when narrowing down your bets and/or player pool.

  • MICHELOB ULTRA is $18 in Tulsa this week! $18 for beer flavored water in the middle of the worst economy we've seen in ages! WHAT. THE. F. MAN.

  • 2 of the last 3 PGA Championship winners were chalk worth eating (Morikawa & Koepka)

  • The 2021 PGA Championship was quite the exception for the chalk as none of the top 10 highest owned players finished inside the top 15.

  • Last year's winning milly maker lineup didn't have a player more expensive than $9.5K, and their total ownership was around 32% with Louie being the only player owned at 10% or more.

  • In contrast, the winning milly maker lineups in 2021 and 2019 had 3 players over $10K between both lineups and average total ownership over 80%.

  • Don't forget the PGA Teach Pros, past PGA Champ champs, and DP World Tour or other world tour guys in this field shrink the "Legit Snowball's Chance in Hell" (trademarked) field size to around 120 players w/ top 70 & ties making the cut. The 6/6 % will be high & the PGA TOUR pros stuck in the $6K range will be in play despite being relegated to the cheap section.

  • Willy Z (34%), Sam Burns (27%), and Talor Gooch (20%) all missed the cut last week at the Byron as chalk. Pissed off a bunch of people...(including DB).

  • Will Zalatoris gained almost 3 strokes with his irons last week on his way to a chalk filled missed cut. He just had a standard crappy week putting.

  • Robert Macintyre has made 8 of 8 cuts in majors with a 8th & 6th at The Open and a 23rd & 12th at The Masters. He's $6.9K

  • Hadwin was 17% owned last week when he missed the cut by 7 shots. He lost 4 strokes in 2 rounds, but it was really 2 bad swings that led to penalties that cost him about 3 to 4 strokes. Hadwin has played in 9 tournament in 2022. He's had 7 top 26 finishes and 2 missed cuts. The last time he missed a cut before last week, he finished 16th at Pebble. He's made the cut in 10 of 17 major appearances. He's $6.3K.

  • The greens at Southern Hills average just over 5,200 sq feet. That's small. Jordan Spieth said in his press conference last week that they play even smaller given the slopes, shelves and undulation that repel balls off the green. The best iron players in the world WILL miss greens. It's not going to be an either/or. They all will have plenty of opportunities to chip around these greens.

  • Both Par 5's can play up to 630 yards, and likely won't play shorter than maybe 585 or 590. This presents a 3 hole par 5 for arguably the entire field. Again...wedge play and short game.

  • The fairways average close to 40 yards in width. That's nearly as wide as ANGC, but being on the proper side is easier said than done given the undulation and slopes that move the ball away from the proper side depending on where you land your tee shot. Total driving is going to be key so guys hitting from the fairway can control spin into these tiny landing areas on the green.

Won money for the 3rd straight week of doing this in the HP email at the Byron for round 1. The Nut Hut Butler, AC, threw out 50 units of PP winnings last week in the Nut Hut. Gotta get in on that people! This week...I'm going with what I see as 2 mortal locks for a 3x return by hitting both. Daly is the first tee time on Thursday and should get the softest greens and lowest winds all day. 1 birdie...you kidding me...Listen, they'll set up majors tough, but it will be done gradually. They aren't going to start out with an impossible setup on day 1. If he doesn't think he can get 1 birdie, then he'd stay in the clubhouse getting banged up.Brooks presser today sold me. He's fully healthy. His WD from the Byron was a big nothing. His record at majors speaks for itself. And he mentioned he'd done a lot of work putting since the MC at Augusta. 3 birdies just seems too short for major championship Brooks.
