Palmetto Championship 2021 Chalk 💣
Maybe the Weakest Field of All Time
DB's Big Balls Betting Card & the 10 Key Stats can be found HERE!
Even for a pre-major event, this would be considered a bad field. In fairness, it's always a little more difficult in front of the US Open in particular because you have lots of legit PGA Tour pros trying to get into the major through sectional qualify. We'll have a very short opener this week because of said weak field, a course that we're all just guessing about, and time constraints. But I can assure you we'll be jam-packed & loaded with your usual programming for next week. Our boy Pat has media credentials & has been on the grounds all week, if you'd like to get all his ball slapping hot tips & caddie info I highly suggest you join the Nut Hut. The weather looks great all week, the wind does kick up a little bit on Friday afternoon, but I would only use that as a tie-breaker if you're stuck between 2 guys. Leh Go!
MATCHUP 1
Glover vs. Kizzire
Glover -121 vs. Kizzire +104
I think these are two of the sneakier names in what is a ridiculously weak field. Clear DFS value on the Love Glove as he's $500 cheaper than Kizzire yet the -121 H2H favorite. Both guys have played reasonably well this year despite being very streaky. Both are in the top 13 in the field in DK points scored the last 50 rounds, and both are in the top 30 in strokes gained tee to green in the same period. Believe it or not, Love Glove is 5th! in the field in strokes gained around the greens & has clearly been working hard on his short game as he's also gained strokes putting in 6 of his last 8 events. The approach play has been extremely volatile for both. Here are their last 9 events, Glover: (0.7, (-1.6), (-1.1), 7.1, 0.2, (-1.4), (-0.2), 4.4 (-4.5)) Kizzire: 4.1, (-0.8), 8.1, (-0.8), (-1.2), 2.1, 6.5, 6.4, (-0.8). Glover certainly has the advantage off the tee with Kizzire only gained strokes once in his last 12 events, but Kizzire certainly has a higher floor (& ceiling) with the putter.

Mitchell vs. Higgo
Mitchell -108 vs. Higgo -108
Both of these guys popped up several times in the 10 stats so I wanted to take a closer look this week. Higgo is a Euro Tour mainstay & mostly does his damage with the flat stick, ranking 1st in strokes gained putting on the other tour. He's not bad with his ball-striking though, ranking 25th on the Euro in GIR%. He's been on quite the heater lately going 4th, 8th, 1st on the other tour and made the cut at a tough PGA setup that should be fairly similar to this week. Killa Keith has a little DFS value since he's a pickem against Higgo with a cheaper price tag. He historically has done most of his best work on difficult, long, bermudagrass courses which I suspect is why he made the 10 stats so many times. He's been fairly solid recently gaining strokes both off the tee & on approach in 4 of his last 5 events while also gaining strokes putting in 7 of his last 9.
MATCHUP 3
Hatton vs. Koepka
Koepka -116 vs. Hatton -101
When you consider that Hatton is almost 1k cheaper than Brooks this week, there looks to be some DFS value with him. Hatton has been steady, if unspectacular all year with both of his top 10's coming in Euro Tour events. The ball-striking has been *mostly* good, and it's largely been the short game that has held him back. You would have to expect at some point that trend should reverse since his around the green game & putting have generally been his 2 biggest strengths. The million-dollar question with Brooks on a week before a major is how motivated is he? 8 times in the last 3 years he's played the week before a major & it's pretty much been feast or famine. 4 of 8 times he's finished in the top 10, the other 4 events he's finished no better than 30th. His driving has been great the last 2 events, and it weirdly seems that the knee is causing the most issues with his putting/green reading...though bermuda is far & away his best surface.

He's one of the worst in the field in par 4 scoring

Rice is great when you're hungry and you want 2000 of something.
I've been trying to teach my kids about taxes recently, the best way I can think to illustrate the point is that I just eat 30 percent of their ice cream.
Speaking of ice cream & desserts, cakes are important in birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, weddings etc...but it's not the main course, it's still just a dessert plate. We need to change this.
I read a lot....one book I'm currently reading is about failure. I couldn't help but wonder if a book about failures doesn't sell, is it a success?
The English language is so dumb. The letter 'W' is made of two 'V's, but it is pronounced as double 'U'....stupid

I feel bad for deaf people, they will never know how funny a well-timed fart can be.
I always think it's funny when I see people running in my neighborhood. They put on special clothes so other people don't think they are running from or to something else.
Being a wine guy, I've always appreciated that the Swiss put a corkscrew on their army knives. Is there literally any other use for it?
Alright, that’s all I got for this week. I hope you enjoy the Palmetto Championship at Congaree. Stay well, good luck with your lineups and bets, and may your screens be green! Bome!
