Mayakoba 2022 HP

HP 🍑 Mayakoba 2022

If golf research were sexual...you'd be rounding 2nd base after this.

Here are a few key things to know that may not have been covered on the podcast enough. Keep these in mind when narrowing down your bets and/or player pool.

Per DataGolf, driving accuracy is significantly more important, at El Camaleon, than the average PGA Tour course. Driving distance is not as important this week.

Another key metric to consider is SG: Off the Tee on courses less than 7200 yards. Since this a short positional golf course you may have some of the long drivers who are able to club down and not take driver off the tee.

There are four Par 3’s, at El Camaleon, with three of those being 150 yards or less. The other Par 3 is 200 yards. Taking this in account plus the Par 4’s and Par 5’s being shorter than average this week will be more a wedge fest with short irons rather than long irons.

El Camaleon consists of Paspalum grass throughout and their greens are very slow. One key stat to consider is strong putters on slow/velcro greens. Three putt avoidance is far lower than the PGA Tour Average. With such limited sample sizes on Paspalum, it may be best to look at SG: Putting on all surfaces...filter to slow/velcro if you like.

It does appear that course history is important this week. El Camaleon ranks 10th on DataGolf’s course history tool. The Top 10 in SG: Performance vs Expecation (min of 8 rounds) include: Adam Long, Maverick McNealy, Armando Favela, Danny Lee, Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, Richy Werenski, JT Poston, Patton Kizzire, and Billy Horschel. Some others that were high on the list with under 8 rounds included: Austin Eckroat, Thomas Detry, Robby Shelton, Danny Willett, and Aaron Rai.

DataGolf's optimal DK lineup is Scottie Schefler, Russ Henley, Matt Kuchar, Aaron Rai, JJ Spaun, and Joel Dahmen.

Lastly, I do think comp courses can be beneficial this week. Those courses include: Corales GC, CoCo Beach, Accordia Golf Narashino, Harbour Town, TPC Sawgrass, Sedgefield, and TPC Potomac.

Si Woo Stories + Fantasy Football + Falling in a Pond on Tour + DJ'ing on the Side + More! You simple can't NOT watch the Matt Nesmith interview. Matt was very funny. Told some great Si Woo stories. And he's a total golf ADDICT! From start to finish, the convo with Matt was A+. The Ben Griffin one is especially entertaining. Even if you're strictly the DFS/Betting data nerd, you'll enjoy our conversations about statistics and how these guys find form week to week.

I'm working in a PP Taco hit here and they only allow up to $25 bet on cards involving tacos. The taco is Bryce Harper for tonights game starting at 8pmET. So, try and get this in before then if you're interested in tailing, but if not, I still love all the overs in fairways hit on Thursday. This bunch I've selected include some serious fairway finders over the long and short term, plus guys like Hovland, Kuchar, and Billy Ho who've all had tremendous success at Mayakoba and understand you MUST hit fairways to play well. The course is soft this time of year, and we'll be getting some rain Wed and Th to soften things up a little more. The winds are your standard coastal 10-15mph, and not much of a factor for these guys. I'd suspect we see PP raise these numbers before Thursday. Hit em now!

Putting Average Rank : 49th

Scrambling Rank : 56th

Birdie or Better % & Rank : 15thOther Intel: Kevin Yu finished 3rd last week in Bermuda as the top of the leaderboard fell back a bit. That comes on the heels of a T37 and T19 to start off his rookie campaign. In his 4 PGA TOUR starts (1 MC), he's gained strokes in every Tee to Green category with seemingly no holes in his game...except with the PUTTER! However, Kevin was not a bad putter on the KFT finishing 49th in PA for the season. He also is one of the few graduates that finished in the top 20 in both driving distance and driving accuracy. Length and accuracy off the tee are the #1 factors to PGA TOUR success when you look at the data. The accuracy off the tee will certainly come in handy this week, and we've seen poor putters perform just fine at Mayakoba. He was the #1 amateur in the world in college and it only took him 1 year on the KFT to lock up his status. The kid has been a stud at every level. Know his name and be on the lookout.
