The Masters 22 Heavy Petting
Heavy Petting 🍑 Masters 2022
If golf research were sexual...you'd be rounding 2nd base after this.
9 out of the last 10 winners had a T15 or better finish in their previous 3 starts leading up to Masters week. Gotta be in form to win a Major. Duh.
With the limited number of realistic guys that could win the Masters in addition to the typically tight leaderboard, we would all be wise to save some bankroll to fire at a few guys after Thursday or Friday (especially considering some wind in the forecast).
Danny Willett was 75/1 by the time the Masters 2016 kicked off and he's the longest winner since Charl won it in 2011 at 90/1. If you're not one to bet favorites, pound the 30/1 to 55/1 range.
DB walked the ANGC inside the ropes on Friday for the ANWA practice round. Saw the changes to 11 and 15. The course was NOT super soft. It wasn't super firm either (other than the greens), but remember that ANGC has the Subair system under a lot of the property (not just the greens). Even after rain, they can firm things up if they choose.
Spieth and Tiger were the only guys to win The Masters under the age of 25 in the last couple of decades. It's tough to imagine crossing off some of the young talent in the game considering their major championship records outside of Augusta. But Augusta is just one of those places that takes patience to win and years to learn/conquer for most.
Old veterans like ZJ, Phil, Adam Scott and even Hideki last year all won here having not arrived in the greatest form. The knowledge of ANGC can counteract some less than amazing form for the veterans.
Over 52% of all approach shots in 2021 came from 175 & Longer. The number of shots from 150-200 yards out was much greater than an average week on the PGA TOUR, while wedge shots from 75 up to 150 were significantly lower than PGA TOUR average.
DataGolf ranks ANGC as one of the easiest courses since 2015 when playing from the rough off the tee. However, with rumors of ANGC shortening rough to allow the ball to roll through the rough and into tree lines, bushes and pine straw...it's something to watch leading up to Thursday.
DataGolf ranks SG Metrics VS a player's expectation based on course fit. It's interesting because it can reveal cheaper/long shot players that tend to level up at a certain course. Here are the Top 15 for ANGC (Min 12 rds): Spieth, Rose, Conners, Smith, Westwood, Hideki, Leishman, Henley, Cink, Koepka, Rahm, Fitzpatrick, Willett, Si woo, Finau
The bottom 15 would be (Min 12 rds): Hatton, Woodland, Horschel, Garcia, Glover, Bryson, Lowry, Cantlay, Molinari, Fleetwood, Rory, Thomas, ZJ, Kisner, Scott
