Houston 21 Heavy Petting

Heavy Petting šŸ‘Houston Open 2021

If golf research were sexual...you'd be rounding 2nd base after this.

  • 7,400 yard Par 70 built for bombers

  • We had a caddie tell us, "if you don't carry it 300 out here, you may as well pack up."

  • The median score at this event last year was -1. Ortiz won at -13. The cut was +3. It was the 5th most difficult on the PGA TOUR last year and that was with very little wind by Texas standards.

  • Brooks Koepka had "input" with the Tom Doak 2019 redesign. #WhoCares

  • The greens are grainy, undulating bermuda. The surfaces are large, but there are levels you've got to hit and plenty of runoffs if you miss. It's grainy bermuda around the greens as well...makes chipping interesting.

  • Jason Day said in 2020, "This is very difficult around the greens with that bermuda grass and the runoffs..."

  • The fairways are generous, but if you miss, the rough can be pretty penal

  • There are less than 20 bunkers on the property and water only comes into play on maybe 3 or 4 holes.

  • Only 2 players out of the top 30 in 2020 lost strokes on SG: APP

  • Only 6 out of the top 30 in 2020 lost strokes on SG: ATG

  • Only 7 out of the top 30 in 2020 lost strokes on Good Drives Gained

Greyson Sigg$6,700 on DK175/1 Outright (PointsBet)+300 for Top 20Our fellow Augusta native and current Sea Island resident, Mr. Greyson Sigg, finished 6th on the KFT order of merit last season after nine Top 10s and a win in Knoxville. Sigg is yet another product of the University of Georgia golf program that boasts quite the stable of studs on the PGA TOUR at the moment. He's a real gamer that WILL win on the PGA TOUR at some point. He's just the total package. He averages over 300 off the tee and finished top 40 in Driving Accuracy. He's not going to overwhelm a course with distance, but he's long enough to contend at any track. He finished 15th in GIR % last season, and loves hitting a baby draw. His short game is excellent around the greens and on the greens with the putter. Given his Southern roots, he'll likely do better on bermuda and bentgrass putting surfaces, and we see him as a grinder. He's played in 3 US Opens w/ 2 made cuts and a T20. He's started this PGA TOUR season by making 4 of 5 cuts and 3 Top 35's. Oh...and he's a TJ fan and very near future guest on the podcast! Stay tuned!Trey Mullinax$6,200 on DK300/1 Outright+900 for Top 20Unless you're brand new to PGA TOUR gambling, then you've likely heard of Trey Mullinax as this is not his first rodeo as a PGA TOUR member. He's been on the Tour, lost his card, and earned it again through this past season's KFT Finals (he finished 2nd). The University of Alabama alum is 29 years old and has plenty of experience compared to some of these young guns coming out of the KFT. He's already logged 86 PGA TOUR events with 49 cuts made, seventeen Top 25s, and five Top 10s, including one just a few weeks ago at The Sanderson with a T4. He's played in two US Opens with a MC and a T9. You can see he's kind of a boom or bust player with solid upside, but some trunk slamming potential if he's off. BTW, his sole runner up on the PGA TOUR came in Texas at the 2018 Valero. Trey is a bomber. He's a big dude with a big swing arc. He finished the KFT season 5th in distance, but of course only hit 59% of his fairways and finished 126th in Driving Accuracy. He also only hit 68% of GIRs (101st on KFT), but he's top 35 in Scrambling and Putting Average. All in all...Trey's perfect on a track that rewards bombers and short game...sounds like...MEMORIAL PARK GC!
