Greenbrier Chalk Bomb!

This Week's Tour Stop A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier

"DB's Big Balls Betting Card"

I bet on golf for fun. You should too. Therefore, I don't get the betting erection I crave betting guys at 18/1 or 9/1. I realize that may be the sharper way to do things, but F that. I've felt the rush of have a big triple digit winning golf bet hit...and Daddy likes! Throughout the season, I'm going to show you my pre tournament bets, including what I'm risking, odds, and some brief logic behind the pick. I'm actually betting these guys. I'm taking $50 a week to show you how I allot my dollars. Follow along, bet with me if you like, or completely fade everyone on this betting card. Up to you. However...I will say...I hit 5 bets in 2019 at 100/1 or longer.

First Round LeaderLebioda (110/1), Ventura (125/1), & Shelton (150/1) - $5 each or .50u

I especially like betting the triple digit FRL guys since you end up chopping the winnings with ties. I almost took Niemann here at 40/1, but again...the odds of him finishing 1st by himself after Thursday are low. Lebioda has proven he can go low on the PGA Tour, and the other 2 have gone low at every level prior to their first event here as rookies.

Outright WinnerHV3 (55/1)_$10, Straka (70/1)_$10, Dahmen (90/1)_$7.50, Ventura (125/1)_$4, Shelton (300/1)_$3.50

HV3 has been very close to his 1st PGA Tour victory. Straka had a sneaky good season and finished strong during the last stretch on Ture. Dahmen is a throw in bet because I REFUSE to have zero exposure when he wins, but we know Joel doesn't do great in first weeks back to golf after time off as he confessed on our Podcast. I'm super high on this Ventura kid from Oklahoma State. 2 wins in 9 tournaments on the Korn Ferry...that's insane! Shelton has been a stud at every level of golf...high school, All American at Bama, #2 on Order of Merit on Mackenzie Tour, and stud last season on Korn Ferry. Imagine sweating that 300/1 number on Sunday...

"Pop the Cork & Let it Breathe" Didn't like em Monday, but like em now

Scott Piercy - $9,600 – The more I dove into the stats and players this week, Piercy continued to pop up for many reasons. First and foremost he has had an extremely solid 2019 campaign making 20 of 23 cuts with 5 top 15 finishes including a 2nd and a 3rd place finish in back to back starts in the spring. He’s solid all around when it comes to stats as well especially when you look at Ball Striking, Strokes Gained off the Tee, Putting, and Scrambling. Piercy’s history is spotty at best here at Old White TPC with his best finish over the last 5 years being a T29 in 2015, but I think that just might lower his ownership (projected less than 10%) some making him a great tournament play on DraftKings this week.

Scott Stallings - $7,000 – The former pod alum and workout monster is looking to me like a great low owned and cheap option this week despite missing his last cut of the 2019 season at the Northern Trust. Stallings is definitely hit or miss but has been very consistent at the Greenbrier making every cut in 5 straight starts including a T13 in last years tourney. Like Piercy above, he’s not going to wow you in every stat category, but he ranks highly in the field in Strokes Gained Approach, Scrambling, and is top 10 in the field in Sand Saves which I do think is important on what some have called some of the toughest bunkers on tour. Scott is currently projected at 1% owned so he’s a great risk reward play for your GPP lineups this week.

Cameron Percy - $6,500 – Well, I couldn’t find another Scott I really loved this week in the 6K range so I’m boing way out on a limb with another huge risk/reward guy in Cameron Percy. Cam actually showed up as the 6th overall ranked player in my stat model when you consider Strokes Gained off the Tee, Approach, Scrambling, Greens in Regulation, and Sand Save Percentage. Despite being one of the Top 50 to earn a tour card thru the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, Percy has plenty of experience on tour and has played the Greenbrier 4 of the last 5 years and made the cut 3 of those 4 times. Short disclaimer though on Cam, don’t get crazy and throw him in a ton of lineups. I just thing he good be a sneaky play that absolutely no one will be on and worth a look if you need a bottom of the barrel cheap play.

"Pontificate with Pat" Random thoughts from Pat

  • I love Doritos. That being said Doritos in my mind should not be considered a chip. They are just Doritos. Not Dorito chips.

  • This probably goes without saying but if I’m playing golf with someone new and they aren’t at the very least grabbing a beer or two at the turn, they are pretty much ruled out for future golf outings. Now, if you show up on the first tee with Tito’s in hand, even if it’s 9 am, we are friends for life.

  • Most listeners of the show know by now I’m OCD AF. Here’s a few insights into the habits of that. When I leave work my desk is always arranged the exact same way. I mean, I’m talking the calculator is always in the same spot with a blue pen and a black pen lined up perfectly next to it. Now during the day it’s a scattered mess, but always the same before I leave. Also, when I get up in the morning and get ready for the day, everything is done in the exact same order. So get up, pee, wash hands, shave, shower (wash face, wash body, wash hair, condition hair, wash face one more time, water off), then underwear, shirt, pants, belt, socks, shoes). Bome, ready for a great day!

  • I saw on twitter yesterday that my beloved Georgia Bulldogs are calling for a “pink out” for this weekend’s game. If you’re wondering why would they do that, it’s because the team they are playing Arkansas State’s Head Coach’s wife passed away of cancer just a few weeks before the season and it’s to honor her. I’m sure we’ve all had someone in our lives succumb to this terrible disease and it’s a beautiful gesture. Just hearing about it though reminded me of how much good there is in this world. The world is not always what CNN or Fox News or whoever out there is telling you it is. And to be honest, you don’t even have to really search that far to see it. Good people are doing great and inspiring things are all around us and I see it every single day. Just keep that in mind every when you’re being told how awful everything is.

  • Final thought, this section will usually be funny with perhaps some other more serious matter, but for the most part, random funny shit I think about and do. But on this day, Sept. 11th, don’t ever forget those we lost in the 9/11 tragedy, and those that gave their lives defending our country in the weeks, months and years that followed. I’ll also add that today is my brother Rob birthday. Rob passed away of a rare blood disease 22 years ago but absolutely loved golf and inspired many thru the game in his short time on this earth. Hug you’re loved ones today folks. That’s all I got.

Tour Junkies IG Post of the Week

David is mighty proud of this one...We threw this out after we all saw Brooks' ass cheeks for the fifty-leventh time in the ESPN Body Issue. I mean...at this point, we've seen Brooks' ass more than our own.
