HP šŸ‘ for the 2024 PLAYERS Championship

Early week research for betting the PLAYERS Championship 2024 on the PGA TOUR

If golf research were sexualā€¦youā€™d be rounding 2nd base after this.

At last, the chalk comes through. Newly-bearded Scottie Scheffler finally ā€˜got seriousā€™ and became the first outright winner of the season with less than 50-1 pre-tournament odds. The Texan reminded us all why heā€™s the World No. 1 despite little-to-no improvement on the greens even with a new mallet putter. Now he looks to defend his title in ā€˜the fifth majorā€™ and the third elevated event of the season. Read on for everything you need to know ahead of the 50th Anniversary edition of the PLAYERS Championship.

Get to Know the 2024 PGA Tour Rookies

Thanks to recent eligibility changes from the PGA Tour, 45 newly minted Tour Cards were handed out ahead of the 2024 season. Each week, weā€™ll spotlight a few up-and-comers whose names will be important to know as the year progresses.

As of the PLAYERS week, weā€™re officially through all of the first-time TOUR pros. From this point on, you may recognize some of these names as previous TOUR Card holders who are back after a brief (or long) stint in the minors so to speak. For a full recap of all 45 new faces on the PGA TOUR for 2024, check out the TJ Discord.

  • David Skinns - England

The 42-year-old Englishman has seen and done just about everything in his decades as a professional golfer, and heā€™s back for one more push in the big leagues in 2024. Skinns earned his first PGA TOUR Card back in 2021 but lasted just one year before dropping back down to the Korn Ferry Tour for the 2023 season. The former Tennessee Vol bounced back in a big way with a win at last yearā€™s Club Car Championship in Patā€™s native Savannah, GA, and four additional top-10s earned him the No.12 spot in the final KFT points list. Early in 2024, Skinns looked in danger of a repeat from his last stint on the PGA TOUR as he missed the cut in each of his first four starts, but an out-of-nowhere T4 at the Cognizant in March will go a long way to keeping his card this year.

  • Paul Barjon - France

For a guy whoā€™s spent much of his career outside the PGA TOUR looking in, Paul Barjon sure knows how to win. The 31-year-old returned to the PGA TOUR for the first time since 2021 thanks to a clutch victory in last yearā€™s KFT Tour Championship. Barjon entered the week 45th in the points list entering the week despite a win earlier in the year at the Memorial Health Championship, and the season-finale W vaulted him up to No. 8 a secured status on the PGA TOUR once again. The Frenchman has four additional wins on the KFT and PGA TOUR Canada. A graduate of TCU, Barjon still lives in and plays out of Fort Worth, TX.

  • Josh Teater - Lexington, KY

It almost feels wrong to include Josh Teater among a list of so-called ā€˜rookiesā€™ considering heā€™s made more TOUR starts than Justin Thomasā€¦ At almost 45 years old, heā€™s had plenty of time to rack them up despite spending the majority of the last decade on the Korn Ferry Tour. Last year, the Kentucky native graduated from the developmental tour for a third time thanks to a solo fifth finish at the season-ending KFT Tour Championship. More ā€˜matureā€™ readers may recall Teater was a mainstay on the PGA TOUR in the early 2010s as he made four consecutive FedExCup Playoffs appearances from 2010 through 2013.
