HP 🍑 for the 2024 Open Championship

Early week research for betting the 2024 Open Championship on the PGA TOUR

If golf research were sexual…you’d be rounding 2nd base after this.

First Look: Royal Troon @ Troon, Scotland

Check out DB’s full Course Breakdown for everything you need to know about this week’s venue including in-depth stats and data from Bet The Number.

The last major championship of the year is finally upon us, and Royal Troon welcomes the world’s best to the 152nd playing of the world’s oldest and most prestigious golf tournament. PGA TOUR stars like Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Aberg and Collin Morikawa showed some fight in the Scottish Open last week, but will they bring that same energy to Troon, or will the LIV contingent led by US Open champ Bryson DeChambeau capture a second major in 2024? All eyes are across the pond for what should be an epic conclusion to the major championship season…

Over/Unders for the Open Championship

The Open can be notoriously difficult to handicap, but there’s one thing we can count on: weather will play a factor. So I’m doing my best to keep things simple with a two-leg over/under total score based on the current forecast that favors the AM wave on Thursday.

  • Adam Scott is coming off a red-hot week at the Scottish Open where he finished runner-up. He has decades of links golf experience and has the benefit of going off in the milder morning wave before the gustier winds come in. I like him to break par and start the week in red figures.

  • I’m taking the opposite with Dustin Johnson who hasn’t been having a great season on on LIV or in the majors. Since his win at LIV Las Vegas in February, he has just two top-20 finishes — not including two MC’s and a T43 in the last three majors. He’s a good links player historically, but I don’t think his game is in good enough shape to battle the 20+ MPH gusts he’ll face in the afternoon on Thursday.

These are the uninsured plays for this week, so here’s hoping for a 2/2 and a nice payout…
