Letās get into it!
Welcome to the Show:
Get to Know the 2024 PGA Tour Rookies
Thanks to recent eligibility changes from the PGA Tour, 45 newly minted Tour Cards were handed out ahead of the 2024 season. Each week, weāll spotlight a few up-and-comers whose names will be important to know as the year progresses.
Matthieu Pavon - France
If you paid any attention to the Farmers Insurance Open last week, you already know this guy. The 31-year-old European Tour veteran didnāt take long to get accustomed to golf on this side of the pond as he nabbed his first PGA TOUR victory in just his third start as a full, card-carrying member. Pavonās rise to the top of the game started late last year when he posted five top-15 finishes in the final six events of the Race to Dubai, including his first-ever DP World Tour win last October. Heās seen more success (and won more money) in the last six months than the previous six years of his career, and he might just be getting started.
Jorge Campillo - Spain
One of Europeās most veteran journeymen, Jorge Campillo finally locked up a PGA TOUR card via the new DP World Tour eligibility rules after a whopping 15 years as a professional. Hailing from Spain, the 37-year-old is enjoying a career resurgence after his best season yet. Campillo racked up a win and five top-10 finishes on the DPWT in 2023 thanks to his exceptional skill on the greens. Far from the longest or most accurate player off the tee, Campillo is one of the better putters in Europe and will hope that carries over onto the different grass types heāll see Stateside. Heās yet to compete on the PGA TOUR so far in 2024, and it should be noted he hasnāt competed professionally in the USA since the 2020 PGA Championship at Harding Park where he missed the cut.
Ryan McCormick - West Long Branch, NJ
The 31-year-old New Jersey native is among the oldest of the āRookiesā on the PGA TOUR for the 2024 season. After three straight years on the Korn Ferry Tour, McCormick earned his TOUR card off the back of eight top-20 finishes last season. His biggest strength is with the flat stick, as he finished 5th on the KFT in putts/round in 2023. But accuracy both off the tee and on approach is what holds him back. He finished 99th and 120th in Driving Accuracy and GIR % respectively, and heāll have to improve in those areas if he wants to keep his card that we worked so hard to earn.
