Fedex St Jude HP 2023
HP 🍑 for The FedEx St Jude
If golf research were sexual...you'd be rounding 2nd base after this.
Here are a few key things to know that may not have been covered on the podcast enough. Keep these in mind when narrowing down your bets and/or player pool. After a long and chaotic season of professional golf on the PGA Tour, we have finally arrived at the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The first leg is this week at the St Jude Championship and features players who finished inside the top 70 in the season long points race. We have several big names who are on the outside looking in, but nonetheless have an exciting tournament lined up this week and the majority of the best in the world competing for gigantic sums of cash! Here are some cliffnotes and things to keep in mind about the course this week:
TPC Southwind has the most water balls of any event on the PGA TOUR over the last 2 decades.
According to DataGolf, TPC Southwind is in the top 15 most difficult courses on the PGA TOUR since 2015 (excluding Majors), similar to Colonial, Riviera, & Muirfield.
TPC Southwind falls middle of the pack in average DD at 289 yards as well as accuracy around 65.5%. The fairways are among the top 10 most narrow at 29 yards on average as well as top 10 most penal when missing the fairways.
Per DataGolf, more approach shots come from 125-200 yards than the average PGA TOUR event since 2015.
Unpredicatable Bermuda grass rough and narrow fairways make playing from the short grass of the utmost importance.
4th smallest greens on Tour, but lighting fast baked out end of summer Bermuda is always tricky.
Fairways are zoysia.
8 par 4's on the card are playing over 445 yards.
Water comes into play on 11 holes and you will see plenty of players end up in major trouble OTT if they are losing tee shots to the right side of the fairway.
Plays very similar to many of the Florida courses in terms of conditions and severity of penalty.
