CJ Cup 2022 Heavy Petting

Heavy Petting 🍑 CJ CUP 2022

If golf research were sexual...you'd be rounding 2nd base after this.

Here are a few key things to know that may not have been covered on the podcast enough. Keep these in mind when narrowing down your bets and/or player pool.

Keep in mind, the 2021 event played at Congaree was in June. It was wet. The course played longer and softer than it's projected to play this week.

Garrick Higgo (winner here in 2021) compared Congaree to Frederica down in Sea Island, GA.

Another no cut event with it being a 78 man field. The bottom 8 includes seven South Korean invites and Chez Reavie. Similar to last week, be aggressive in DFS. Scoring matters even though this isn't the easiest course they've ever played.

Water comes into play on 13 holes and no real rough the entire property. ‘

In 2021, Congaree GC had the longest average driving distance at 304.8

In 2021, Congaree GC was the 2nd easiest off-the-tee only behind Plantation Course at Kapalua.

In 2021, Congaree GC had the 3rd widest fairways with an average of 51.4

At Congaree GC, bunkers come into place throughout the course with most holes having bunkers lining the fairways up to the green. In 2021, Congaree ranked as the 4th most difficult course for strokes gained around-the-green bunker shots.

DataGolf's optimal DK lineup is Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Cam Young, Keith Mitchell, Gary Woodland, and Brendan Steele.

On the scorecard, Congaree is listed as a Par 71 that is 7,685 yards long. However, in 2021, the course averaged 7,336 yards.

In 2021, the approach shot distributions which ranked above Tour average were: 50 - 75 yards (3.9%), 175 - 200 yards (18%) and 250+ yards (14.5%).

This week does not appear to be a putting contest. SG Putting ranked below Tour Average at 0.543.

According to Fantasy National, the Top 10 golfers in no-cut events over the past 50 rounds include: Rory, JT, Rahm, Byeong Hun An (also recent interview with the Tour Junkies….goood mojo?!?!), Hatton, Im, Simpson, List, Scheffler, and Fowler.

Si Woo Stories + Fantasy Football + Falling in a Pond on Tour + DJ'ing on the Side + More! You simple can't NOT watch the Matt Nesmith interview. Matt was very funny. Told some great Si Woo stories. And he's a total golf ADDICT! From start to finish, the convo with Matt was A+. The Ben Griffin one is especially entertaining. Even if you're strictly the DFS/Betting data nerd, you'll enjoy our conversations about statistics and how these guys find form week to week.

NONE! Because "Chalk Bomb (Formally) Ben" didn't get them to me. Tweet him @TruMav on Twitter and tell him what an asshat he is for slacking off.

We've min cashed 2 weeks in a row now so time for a big swing with this one. I'm going with a full 5 pick card to win 10x our money if all 5 hit, but we still cash if only 3 hit. Spieth, Fitz & Sungjae are just in class above their opponents in the BoB matchups. Then, I'm taking the OVER on the fairways with JT (lowest number on the board at 9) and Homa (tremendous total driver). The fairways average 51 yards in width here. While I do think the firm and fast conditions make it slightly more challenging than in 2021, I still think these guys do whatever necessary to hit the fairway and not play from the waste areas.

PODCAST INTEL: Ben An's interview drops soon, and it was awesome. In terms of his game, he's done a lot of work to improve his dreadful putting and he's seeing results already. He's also added 6mph of speed to his driver swing (he was already above avg in distance). He's always been and remains an incredible iron player. He prides himself on having one of the best short games out on the PGA TOUR. The play around the green was stellar even before he lost his card, and it's an underrated strength of his today. Long, difficult, demanding courses that require precision iron play and scrambling ability (like what we'll see this week) suit Ben An quite well.
