Charles Schwab HP 2023

HP 🍑 for The Charles Schwab Challenge

If golf research were sexual...you'd be rounding 2nd base after this.

Here are a few key things to know that may not have been covered on the podcast enough. Keep these in mind when narrowing down your bets and/or player pool. What a week it was! The PGA Championship always delivers. That was an incredible display of guts and stones by Brooks Koepka and it's once again hard to imagine a Major Championship without Brooks being a factor moving forward. We quickly hop right back in the saddle with one of the oldest running tour stops, The Charles Schwab Challange and Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, TX. We all know this event well and have honed in on the player attributes that often correlate to success at the Chuck Schwab. Here are some important course nuggets and takeaways as we prepare for Oak Hill and the 2023 PGA Championship!

  • In 6 of the last 9 years, the winner has come from an outright price below 30-1 entering the week.

  • Quintessential tight parklands golf course that rewards positions off the tee and proper shot shaping on approach.

  • 6th smallest greens on average on Tour and pure Bentgrass.

  • Z. Johnson holds the 72 hole record here at -21. Kevin Na holds the course record at 61.

  • Colonial has 9 Par 4's that play less than 450 yards and it's the main reason most approach shots fall in the 150-175 yard range.

  • The course can tip out at 7200 yards, but the Tour has set it up around 7000 yards on average over the last few years.

  • Pay attention to winds. This time of year in Texas they can really wreak havoc, as they did last year for the final round when Burns posted early and watched the carnage ensue.

  • Rickie Fowler was over 23% owned last week, highest of the PGA Championship, and is playing again this week off a missed cut at Oak Hill. *eyeballs emoji

  • Fairways on average are 28 yards wide, but also tend to narrow the further you hit it, making the optimal play OTT to club down in many instances.

  • We will have much more caddie insights in the discord as the week moves along, make sure you are active in the Nut Hut this week!
