Canadian Open HP 2023

HP 🍑 for The Canadian Open

If golf research were sexual...you'd be rounding 2nd base after this.

Here are a few key things to know that may not have been covered on the podcast enough. Keep these in mind when narrowing down your bets and/or player pool.Well...what a day in professional golf. To be honest, it's hard to care whatsoever about the Canadian Open this week. We have no idea what's in store for the next 48 hours until opening tee of Thursday, but we are going to attempt to preview the event this week...assuming the players agree to play! It's the first time the PGA Tour has hosted an event at Oakdale Golf & Country Club just outside Toronto so we honestly don't have a much to glean from course knowledge. On the Preferred Lines Podcast this week, Geoff Fienberg, who has been a member at Oakdale for over 30 years has some nice tidbits to share about his home course and the setup this week. For a complete, in-depth preview, check out the Rundown here. Here are some notable things about Oakdale:

  • The defining feature of Oakdale is how the majority of holes play down into a valley from elevated tees and then back uphill to steeply elevated, multi-tiered green complexes.

  • Whether this course plays supremely easy or rather difficult, depends on how high they keep the rough. It's narrow, so if the rough is gnarly, it could mitigate super low scoring.

  • There was some debate about the 496 yard closing hole. It will indeed play as a par 5 this week.

  • Looking at the hole distances, we expect a higher than normal amount of wedge shots coming into greens on approach this week. 100-175 yards will be prominently featured.

  • Holes 3-6 is going to play as the hardest stretch. They are all par 4's that average 475 in distance.

  • The back nine will play substantially easier. Geoff mentioned we could easily see a 29 on the back. Pay attention to where your players tee off and when if you are looking for live odds.

  • Greens are traditional, quick NE Bentgrass
