Byron Nelson Chalk Bomb 23
Byron Nelson Chalk 💣 2023
As of now, we wouldn't call it much of an advantage at all for either wave. However, it does appear the guys going off earliest tomorrow will at least get the most favorable wind conditions of the first 2 days.As always, make sure you tune into the Nut Hut live chat starting around 9pmET for the latest and final thoughts on the weather this week...GET IN THERE!
Si Woo Kim -121 ($9,100) vs. Dylan Wu -109 ($7,400)
We were a bit suprised to see this matchup offering when it was first released because of the large discrepancy between pricing in the outright markets and DFS salaries. After some early interest in the Si Woo side from the market making books, things have been steady lately and this line has appeared to have settled in. Wu has been on a solid consistent run of late which makes him an interesting play because we all are aware of the volatility you can get sometimes betting on Si Woo Kim.DataGolf has projected scoring for each player as follows: Si Woo is projected to score 82.1 points and Dylan Wu 67.9 points. The other component here is ownership, as the latest Nut Hut projections have Si Woo estimated at 9% ownership while Wu is garnering nearly 14% ownership.
KH Lee -170 ($9,300) vs. Taylor Montgomery +150 ($8,700)
Another unique offering here, this time from our friends at Circa Sportsbook. Bettors came in early and often on the side of KH Lee here after they opened him as a -140 favorite.Books are typically reluctant to have -170 juice on any matchup because often times it means they didn't properly pick the two players. They want action on both and are now exposed is sharp money wants to come back in on Monty at +150.Ownership is pretty one sided in strong favor of KH Lee who is projected at 21% owned while you can catch some relief on Montgomery who is projected at 9.5% ownership.
Tom Kim -138 ($9,600) vs. Matt Kuchar +118 ($9,000)
At first sight this looks like a properly set line but the sharp books have seen two-way action on this matchup. After initial heavy bets hit the Kim side, bettors have shown up at the counters to bet Kuchar back down to +118 where he now stands.Ownership on Tom Kim appears to be really high this week, checking in around 23% and Kuchar is highly owned as well at nearly 16%. This makes sense given the price break you get of $600 on Kuchar in DFS formats. We ran a 100 round simulation on this matchup and Tom Kim won the sim 56.9% of the time which would be a price of -131 accordingly to this data. Good luck this week and use this data as you please!
*DISCLAIMER: The Chalk Bomb is CHALK for a reason! This is a ballsy call. We're simply giving you 1 player projected to be highly owned that we think could warrant a fade in order to gain leverage in DFS GPP Tournaments. Sack up & fade OR Ignore the play. When all else fails and times get tough in the chalk bomb streets, you can always go back to the Cameron Young well when you need it! The CB went big time bust last week and I am thankfully back in the good graces of the Tour Junkies family. Let's see what we can do to run it up once again this week for the Byron Nelson! As we assess the ownership projections this week from the Nut Hut research center which pulls aggregate data from a number of reliable resources, one player absolutely sticks out like a sore thumb that has been run over by a Texas steer. The good old fashioned sniff test is what first brought this chalk bomb candidate to the table this week and was further cemented by diving into some more data as the week progressed. This player comes into the event this week off his best finish in 4 months, which was a top 10 last week at the Wells Fargo Championship. When I looked closer into how he got it done last week. it came primarily with the flat stick which we know is a blazing red flag typically. Over 2/3 of the strokes gained last week came with via the Putter where he had his best Putting week since the Travelers Championship last summer. We know it's difficult to sustain this type of putting performance from week to week and especially since we have a total change in green surfaces and style this week at TPC Craig Ranch versus what we saw at Quail Hollow. DB has talked numerous times about how we simply cannot rely on this particular stat for any sort of consistency from week to week or even round by round. It's highly variable to say the very least. We you look at all the players priced above $9,000 this week from a 24, 36, and 50 round standpoint, this player is in the bottom 2 in strokes gained total within every time frame. He's also the shortest off the tee of the bunch as well on a golf course that encourages players to hit bombs off the tee with very little impeding penalty for a wide miss. Despite a solid run a Craig Ranch, two years ago I would not have labeled this golf course as a place that would adequately fit this players skill set.I'll be the first to say, I'm a believer in course history. But, at some point it's gets a bit ridiculous and you have to assess the quality of player through a clear lens. The biggest knock is the consistency of the iron play in general. This player has not recorded back to back weeks where he has gained strokes on approach all season long! He gained 3.26 last week for those counting. If it looks like a fish and smells like a fish, it's probably a fish...and this player wreaks this week. Even last year with positive course history at this event and better incoming form, you could get this player in triple digit longshot odds for this event. This year he will tee it up within the top 10 players in both odds and Draftkings pricing. The pendulum has just swung way too far in the opposite direction in my opinion, and we are certainly destined for a return to the median performance coming this week. At an insanely whopping 21% ownership and a cool $9,300 in DFS, Mr. KH TPC LEE, you are the chalk bomb!
I never see new cereal commercials anymore. Why did the innovation of cereals seem to end in the 1990's?I don't know anyone who likes chunky peanut butter. It's been 23 years, and we still don't know who let the dogs out. I have finally come to the realization that in my entire life I will never remember to change my home air filters on time.Alright, that’s all I got for this week. Enjoy the Byron Nelson and what should be a birdie fest at TPC Craig Ranch. Stay well, good luck with your lineups and bets, and may your screens be green! Bome!
